DEARBORN — A woman in a motorized shopping cart brazenly stole more than $200 in merchandise Jan. 11 from the Kroger store at Western Mall before she and her accomplice fled from a pursuing police officer in a high-speed chase.

An assistant store manager, who recorded the woman on her cell phone while pursuing her through the parking lot, said the woman stole nine 12-packs of Red Bull, a six-pack of Coca-Cola and a Frito-Lay multi-pack. In their haste to escape, they left their stolen chicken and fruit in the shopping cart.

A police officer, whom the assistant manager flagged down, pursued the pair to the Telegraph and Ford Road area, where, in the interest of safety, they terminated the high-speed chase.

The shoplifter was a black female, wearing a hooded denim jacket and a white mask, while the driver, a black male, was wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, a blue knit hat and a white mask. They were driving an older gray GMC Yukon with no license plate.
