LINCOLN PARK — A 50-year-old woman who had been chatting for several months with a man on the Plenty of Fish dating app reported to police on Dec. 29 that he tricked her into buying gift cards for him after he allegedly deposited money into her bank account.

By the time her financial institution told her that his deposit was invalid, she had already purchased the gift cards for the man and read the card numbers to him. She was unable to contact him afterward using the dating app.

She was given a police report number, and advised to contact her financial institution about the fraud.
