ALLEN PARK — Police were dispatched to a room at Allen Park Motor Lodge, 14887 Southfield Road, Jan. 8 after a highly intoxicated man was refusing to leave the room two hours after checkout.
The motel manager escorted an officer to the room where the man was staying, opened the door and found him sleeping in the bed. The man was advised that police were present, then stared at the officer before telling the manager to give him the room for another evening.
According to the report, there was two pints of liquor on the floor. Officers responded to the scene to assist with the man. As police continued talking with the man to see if he was able to take care of himself and or arrange a ride home, he refused to talk. He was informed that police could not help him if he refused to speak with officers.
The man said that officers cannot help him and to just shoot him and kill him. He also said that he wanted to die. The man became very agitated, started to stare the officer down and was standing in a fighting stance with a clinched jaw and fists.
Another officer observed the man’s behavior and stepped in between the man and the first officer to see if the man could be calmed down. The man lunged at the officer and attempted to swing at his face.
Police quickly pushed the man back into the bed and as they attempted to handcuff him behind the back, the man kept pulling his right arm away from officers and attempted to tuck it under his body.
When officers were finally able to handcuff the man they observed that he had a fresh red mark next to his right eye. First responders arrived and transported the man to Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn for a commitment and high intoxication level.
Officers escorted the man to the hospital with first responders. The hospital refused to take a committal form due to the man’s high intoxication level, but the man was still left in the hospital’s care.
