HEIGHTS — A 16-year-old Annapolis High School student died suddenly the morning of Jan. 28, according to posts on social media.
The Citizens for Dearborn Heights D7 School District and official District 7 Schools Facebook pages posted information regarding the death of Joshua Hayes.
His funeral was held Feb. 2 at Hackett-Metcalf Funeral Home in Dearborn
A candlelight vigil organized by AHS Principal Cheryl Howard and student Nadia Nasir was planned for 5:45 p.m. Feb. 4 in the AHS parking lot,
“We have lost one of our own, please join us in keeping Joshua’s memory alive,” a flyer for the vigil read. “Social distancing and masks required.”
Rachel Schuyler started a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of the family which had raised $11,295 of the $12,000 goal as of Feb. 3.
“It’s hard to know what to say or do when someone you care about loses a loved one, especially one so young,” the fundraiser page read. “We are creating this fundraiser in the hopes of helping his brothers John, Nate and Anthony. All contributions will go directly to Josh’s siblings.”
