Firefighters extinguish Allen Park brush fire

Allen Park firefighters extinguish a brush fire along I-94 between the Rouge River and Oakwood Boulevard March 23. The fires threatened some buildings in the Fordland Business Park because of wind-blown hot embers, according to the Allen Park Fire Department’s Facebook post. Firefighters fought the fire from two sides — along the edge of the expressway and as a curtain between the buildings and the fire from parking lots. Flaming trees had to be cut down and firefighters had to shuttle water to hydrants off the expressway to get more water up on the expressway. Allen Park was assisted by Dearborn and Taylor firefighters.
