Detroit teen charged

RIVERVIEW — A 19-year-old Detroit resident was arrested by police in connection gun shots fired in the parking lot of a local business May 10.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Jamal Darius Parker with one count of carrying a concealed weapon, a rive-year felony; one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony, and one county of felony firearm, a two-year felony.
Parker was arraigned today in 27th District Court before Judge Elizabeth DiSanto. DiSanto set bond at $50,000, 10 percent, and required Parker to wear a GPS tether pending his next court appearance.
Another person arrested in connection with the incident was not charged.
Riverview police officers responded to a business in the 19000 block of Fort Street about 6:30 p.m. when the caller advised that no one had been shot. The caller also provided a description of the suspect and suspect’s vehicle.
Once at the scene, officers saw the suspect vehicle driving nearby and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, a 20-year-old Riverview resident was taken into custody.
Shortly after, Riverview and assisting Trenton police officers located the 19-year-old alleged shooter in a nearby apartment complex. He was taken into custody without incident.
“At this time the motive for firing the shots is unknown,” A Riverview Police Department press release said. “Police checked the area and did not find any injured victims.”
“This type of incident is rare in our community,” Police Chief Ronald Beggs said. “We will not tolerate this sort of dangerous, criminal behavior and we will seek to have those responsible charged to the fullest extent of the law. We are grateful that no one was injured. We’d like to say thank you to the citizen who called 911 and provided the information that assisted us in quickly taking the parties into custody.”
