The newly created Wayne County Women’s Commission today elected Carmen Carter as its inaugural chair and Sarah Roberts as vice chair.
Carter is an appointee of Wayne County Commissioner Monique Baker McCormick (D-Detroit).
Roberts — a former state legislator — is an appointee of Wayne County Commission Chair Alisha Bell (D-Detroit).
The commission also voted to make efforts to ease the impact of COVID-19 on Wayne County women a priority.
The volunteer commission was created earlier this year by the Wayne County Commission to bring together a diverse group to address and make recommendations on issues of importance to women living in the county. It includes 19 members with 15 appointed by county commission members and four at-large members appointed by Bell.
Today’s meeting was the group’s second since its formation. Meetings are held in compliance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act. Videos of each meeting are posted on YouTube and on the Wayne County Women’s Commission section of the county website.
