DEARBORN — The attempted theft of a $497 Hart lawnmower from Walmart, 5851 Mercury Drive, was thwarted Aug. 22 when an employee saw a shopper circle the garden section with the machine before attempting to exit the garden doors without paying for it.
The man, who was described as a black male, 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build, and wearing a gray Tigers 24 T-shirt, black pants and a white and blue ball cap, abandoned the mower when confronted, and ran to the passenger side of a gray or silver sport utility vehicle, which left the area west on Ford Road.
Police officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. No other items appear to have been stolen. Store personnel said they would forward surveillance footage to the police detective bureau.
