MELVINDALE — A drunken driver who pulled over in the 18000 block of Prospect Avenue and fell asleep in the grass near the curb about 5 a.m. March 26, was taken into custody for operating while impaired.

A person living nearby said that when his dogs started barking persistently, he went outside and found the man passed out on the grass across the street, and called police officers.

The man, who could barely stay awake, failed numerous field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.143, nearly twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.

He was then transported to the Dearborn police station, where he was booked and held.
