LINCOLN PARK — A woman learned an expensive lesson May 3: If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The victim, a 69-year-old woman, said a Florida man contacted her and said if she sent him $500, she would receive a $150,000 return on her investment. She was advised to mail cash via the U.S. Postal Service, which she did. When the contact person then offered a $500,000 return for a larger investment, she realized that she was being scammed. She provided police officers with the address to which she mailed the cash.
