TAYLOR — A con artist tricked a 60-year-old woman who applied for an online loan two months ago into providing banking information and forwarding a $600 prepaid gift card online payment on June 30 to secure the loan.
The victim said she was advised that, in addition to the $600 gift card, she needed to provide an alternate method of payment in case the pre-paid gift card did not go through, so she provided two credit card numbers and a debit card number, along with the confirmation codes.
Subsequently, $600 was removed from her bank account, causing it to become overdrawn. She said she wished to prosecute if the fraudster is found.
