TAYLOR — A substance suspected of being an illegal drug was found the morning of June 20 during a traffic stop near Beech Daly Road and Joan Avenue initiated because of a vehicle’s cracked windshield.
The driver, a 29-year-old Belleville man, had an expired registration, and the silver 2006 BMW 328 was uninsured.
His passenger, a 31-year-old Inkster man, had numerous misdemeanor arrest warrants out of Inkster for traffic and drug offenses, and a warrant out of Dearborn for a family strong arm aggravated assault, for which he was transported to the Dearborn police department.
The driver was told that his vehicle would be towed due to it not being insured. As he exited the vehicle, he grabbed a backpack and an ash tray, which had burnt marijuana cigarettes inside.
During the vehicle search, prior to it being towed, a jar with a white powdery substance was found. It tested negative for cocaine and methamphetamine, but was still tagged and taken into evidence. The driver was then released at the scene.
