TRENTON — A “Trojan Virus Spyware” screen that popped up on a woman’s personal computer the afternoon of June 21 led her to call the fake help desk phone number on her screen, which may have made the financial information on her computer vulnerable to hackers.
The victim said she called what she thought was a Microsoft employee, and provided some personal information, but when her son heard what was occurring, he powered off her laptop and hung up her phone.
The woman said she then began receiving robocalls on her cell phone from the same fraudster.
She then contacted a local information technology company to remove any viruses, spyware and malware from her computer.
She was advised to monitor her credit card and financial accounts for suspicious activity.
