WYANDOTTE — A speeding 49-year-old Wyandotte man was charged with operating while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of an accident the night of July 15 near 12th and Oak streets, where he lost control of his pickup, crashed into a light pole and drove over a residential lawn before attempting to flee the location.

Police officers found the drunken driver and his damaged vehicle several blocks from the original crash site.

The light pole was severed from its base and damaged a privacy fence.
