HEIGHTS — A con artist who tried unsuccessfully July 29 to manipulate a couple selling a chair online into refunding his fake payment via a cash app, threatened to “blow up their house and household” when they wouldn’t comply with his scam.

The couple, who were selling a $300 chair on Facebook Marketplace, were contacted by the supposed buyer, who claimed he sent them the purchase price via an online cash app. When the sellers claimed they hadn’t received the money, the shady buyer demanded the couple “return” his payment via the same online app. The sellers sensed fraud, and contacted police.
