TAYLOR — The Chung Shan Junior Little League from Taichung, Chinese Taipei, captured the 40th Junior League Baseball World Series at Aug 21 at Heritage Park.
Chinese Taipei, representing the Asia-Pacific International Region, defeated the United States West Region champions from the Oil Belt Little League of Corpus Christi, Texas, 7-1, in Sunday’s rain-delayed title game.
The winners finished a perfect 5-0 in the weeklong tournament, outscoring the opposition an amazing 61-1. This marked Chinese Taipei’s seventh JLWS title in the past eight tries, and eighth overall since 2010.
During the tournament, Shao-Chi Fang had two home runs, 11 RBI, scored 13 times and batted .667; and Yu-Te Chiu had two home runs, eight RBI and batted .462. Fang pitched the championship game, tossing a six-hitter over seven innings.
Corpus Christi, Texas was a perfect 3-0 heading into the championship game after drawing a first-round bye. Texas reeled off impressive wins over the USA West Region Hawaiian team (13-1), host Taylor North (11-4) and Clinton County, Pa., the USA East Region representative (10-3).
