HEIGHTS – Dearborn Heights’ two libraries will host free open house celebrations Sept. 10. The events at both libraries – Caroline Kennedy Library, 24590 George St., and John F. Kennedy Jr. Library, 24602 Van Born — will run from 1 to 4 p.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the services and collections both libraries offer, as well as a chance to enjoy a comedy magic act by Cameron Zvara at Caroline Kennedy Library, and “Mermaid Molly” at the John F. Kennedy Library, who will read stories, sing songs, and have a treasure chest filled with goodies for children of all ages.
Both libraries will feature refreshments, children’s activities and a free raffle.
“They will be great events that will be both informative and fun for everyone,” Library Director Mike McCaffery said.
In addition to book and periodical offerings, both libraries offer several adult, youth, teen and family programs; informative and educational programs; and a host of other resources.
Another accomplishment the libraries will be celebrating is their nomination as a finalist for the National Medal for Museum and Library Services. The medal is the nation’s highest honor bestowed on museums and libraries that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities.
Only 15 libraries nationwide are named annually as finalists, and no public library in Michigan has been named as a finalist since 2010.
