DEARBORN — An Eastern Michigan University administrator was arrested after driving through Dearborn without any clothing and touching himself.
The Police Department received cell phone video footage from a concerned driver of a male driving a black Jeep Wrangler westbound on Michigan Avenue near Miller Road Sept. 2.
Detectives identified the driver as Michael Tew, 62, of Dearborn. Tew is an associate provost and associate vice president for Academic Programs and Services, and previously served as director of Equality, according to EMU Today.
Tew was arrested at his home on Sept. 7.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Tew with one misdemeanor count of aggravated indecent exposure and one felony count of indecent exposure with sexually delinquent person notice. He was arraigned before 19th District Court Judge Gene Hunt and was issued a $20,000, 10 percent cash bond.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for Sept. 23, and a preliminary examination of the evidence against Hew is scheduled for Sept. 30.
“This sort of conduct is illegal and will not be tolerated in Dearborn,” Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “I’d like to commend the concerned citizen for documenting the incident and bringing it to our attention.”
