DEARBORN – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed two Dearborn residents to state boards Sept. 29: Ali H. Alhashemi to the Board of Barber Examiners and Sahar Farhat to the Michigan Board of Dentistry.
Alhashemi, a licensed barber and CEO of Uppercutz Barbershop of Dearborn, is a personal barber for the Detroit Lions football team and is a founder of The Groomed Man, a line of personal hair and body care products.
His term runs Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2026, and he succeeds Arif El-Boukari.
The Michigan Board of Barber Examiners regulates the services of barbers, barber students, barber colleges, barber instructors, student instructors and barbershops in Michigan.
Farhat is a dental assistant and senior hygienist for Parkland Dental of Westland and the chief operating officer of Care Diagnostics laboratory of Dearborn.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Detroit Mercy.
Her term runs from Sept. 29, 2022, through June 30, 2026, and she succeeds Lori Barnhart.
The Michigan Board of Dentistry regulates the practice of dentistry and dental hygiene, authorizes dental assistants, and certifies specialists in the fields of orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral pathology.
Both appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
