Air bag stolen from rental car

ALLEN PARK — The steering wheel assembly of a 2022 Chevy Malibu rental car was stolen at 2:51 a.m. Oct. 15 from the east parking lot of Holiday Inn Express, 9000 Enterprise Drive.

Due to supply chain delays for replacement air bags, stealing them by removing vehicle steering column assemblies are a tempting target for thieves, who sell the airbags online or to unscrupulous repair shops.

Surveillance camera footage from the hotel shows two people arriving in a small black two-door car. One of the thieves was dressed all in black, with a face mask on, while the other wore a red hoodie and a face mask.
