Past Dearborn Veterans of the Year participate in the 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony.

DEARBORN – The public is invited to attend the city’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.

The ceremony is presented in conjunction with the Dearborn Allied War Council, which recently selected the 2022-23 Dearborn Veteran of the Year, United States Marine Corps veteran Phillip Smith.

The Veteran of the Year is chosen based on actions that improve the lives of others following their service, as well as for personal qualities including honor, leadership, compassion, and commitment.

Smith has shown dedication to the veteran community for decades and has actively advocated for veterans and their families. He also has served as the local coordinating officer and has been instrumental in the success of the annual Toys for Tots program during the holiday season.

The event also will include remarks from Mayor Abdullah Hammoud.
