DEARBORN – A River Rouge woman was charged Dec. 18 in a hit-and-run crash Dec. 15 that injured a teenager in the city’s South End.
Paris Denise Varner, 37, was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, a 1-year misdemeanor.
Varner was arraigned in 19th District Court before Judge Sam Salamey. Salamey issued a $500 personal bond with the additional condition that Varner cannot travel outside of Wayne County.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 27.
On Dec. 15, Varner was driving a blue Dodge Durango when she allegedly hit a Dearborn teenager crossing the street, with her vehicle then fled. Dearborn police were assisted by Detroit police and the community in identifying Varner. Varner’s vehicle was impounded
The teen received care from a local hospital and has since been discharged and is expected to make a full recovery.
“This is a great example of everyone coming together to do the right thing,” Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “We were able to identify the driver and now charges have been issued for what could have been a fatal incident. Thankfully, the teen is recovering and a reckless driver is off the road.”
