TAYLOR — A scammer claiming to be with Medicare attempted to phish personal information from a Trenton man Dec. 15, and successfully obtained his Medicare number and his victim’s date of birth.
The victim called Medicare shortly after the suspicious call, and was told that a Medicare representative had not called him. They said he would be issued a new identification number.
When the man contacted his doctor, he learned that they had received a phishing phone call as well asking about his medical history. He then contacted his bank and the credit bureaus to make them aware of the identity theft attempt.
