RIVERVIEW — The steering wheel and airbag assembly of a Chevy Malibu was reported stolen the evening of Dec. 26 from an apartment complex parking lot in the 15000 block of Brookview Drive.

The victim said the driver’s side front window was smashed to gain entry and the vehicle was ransacked, but nothing else appeared to have been taken.

He said OnStar sent him a theft alarm text alert at 6:54 p.m. Dec. 26, at which time he hit the panic button car horn alarm on his key fob in an attempt to scare away anyone who might be near his vehicle.

The victim said when he went outside to check on his car, he saw two unfamiliar vehicles driving away, but he did not know if they were connected to the steering wheel theft.
