WYANDOTTE – An emergency procurement for drainage improvements to the Memorial Park ballfields was approved Dec. 19 by the City Council, with the project being done in collaboration with the school district.
The drainage improvements are needed to have playable surfaces in time for the early spring baseball and softball seasons.
While both the city and school district have sought grants from Wayne County, the Ralph Wilson Foundation and the state of Michigan to improve the ballfields, they were not successful in obtaining any funding.
The work will be managed and planned by the school district, with the city providing $9,800 of the cost, with the work authorized to be performed by Raupp Brothers LLC.
The written bid process was waived due to the immediacy of the project, which is permitted for jobs under $20,000 when the potential exists for the significant disruption of operations or delivery of services, which would occur if the ballfields were not ready for the spring season.
