SOUTHGATE — After an attempted bicycle theft on the night of Dec. 30 in the 1200 block of Dix-Toledo Road, a man learned to lock up his two-wheeler indoors to avoid future larceny.
The man said he saw his security lights turn on, and when he went to investigate, he saw a man pushing his bicycle, which had been outdoors under a tarp, down the road. The rightful owner gave chase, and the would-be thief eventually dropped his ill-gotten gain and fled on foot. Footage of the theft was captured by a Ring doorbell cam.
The man mentioned someone who had shown interest in his bicycle before the incident, but said he did not get a close enough look at the thief to determine if it were them.
