MELVINDALE — Two police officers prevented the suicide of a 23-year-old man on Jan. 15 who had taken an unknown number of pills and was armed with a large knife.

After talking with him for more than an hour, the man still held the knife close to his body and insisted he wanted to die. One of the police officers then electronically subdued the man to disarm him and allow him to be secured for transport to Corewell Health Hospital, Dearborn.
