HEIGHTS – Mayor Bill Bazzi stopped by the Berwyn Senior Recreation Center last week to join a host of well-wishers as they celebrated a long-time resident’s 100th birthday.
Resident Gene Monohan reached the century milestone on Jan. 22. She was treated to a birthday celebration Feb. 2 at the center, where some 20 area residents and Berwyn staff enjoyed a lunch, birthday cake and other baked goods.
A long-time resident of Dearborn Heights, Monohan is an active participant in many of the Berwyn Center’s activities – including several years of assisting with the Goodfellows teddy bear giveaways for children at holiday time, and an active member of the Red Hat Club and the Canfield Club.
“I was honored to join Gene at her birthday celebration, where I presented her with a certificate proclaiming her birthday, January 22nd as Gene Monahan Day,” Bazzi said. “Congratulations, Gene, and many more birthdays to you in good health.”
