DEARBORN – Two Detroit residents were arrested in connection with vehicle theft and multiple larcenies from unlocked vehicles during the overnight hours of Jan. 30 and 31.
Robert Anthony Smith II, 20, and a juvenile were arrested after an investigation that also included Detroit and Bloomfield Township police. The identity of the juvenile is being withheld.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Smith with receiving and concealing a motor vehicle, larceny over $1000, and stealing a financial transaction device. He was arraigned on the charges and issued a $3,000 cash bond. A preliminary examination of the evidence against him is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 24.
During the overnight hours of Jan. 30, Dearborn police responded to several residences on reports of items stolen from unlocked vehicles. One unlocked vehicle was stolen from the victim’s driveway.
Nearby surveillance footage provided valuable details to assist investigators, including images of a stolen Range Rover used during the crimes.
“This series of crimes is a prime example of the importance of securing personal property and ensuring that vehicles are locked at all times,” Police Chief Issa Shahin said. “I urge citizens to be vigilant to prevent further incidents like this from occurring.”
