HEIGHTS — A 51-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was scammed out of $2,900 on Feb. 8 by a con artist offering to pay her for outfitting her vehicle with logos and advertisements.

The victim said she was told she would be paid $700 per week to outfit her vehicle as a mobile billboard. She was then sent a $2,900 check, which she cashed and converted to three money orders to pay for advertisement installation, and was given an address to which she shipped the money orders.

However, two days after she shipped the money orders, her financial institution told her the $3,700 check bounced, and she was out $2,900 for the money orders she sent.

The woman provided police officers with a copy of the money order receipts and the addresses to which the money orders were sent.
