ALLEN PARK — One shoplifter was stopped and another escaped with merchandise the night of March 10 from TJ Maxx, 3320 Fairlane Drive. The two incidents were not known to be related.
At 6:50 p.m. a woman walked into the store with a shopping bag, which she placed into a cart and began to fill with assorted items from the store, later determined to represent $458 in retail value. The woman then attempted to exit the store without paying for the items and was detained by a loss prevention employee. The woman surrendered the bag of merchandise, but then left the store.
Surveillance camera footage of the woman was turned over to the responding police officer.
Nine minutes later, a man with a duffle bag and a backpack entered the store, put on a woman’s black coat with a fur-trimmed hood over his own coat, then exited the store without paying for the $150 jacket.
When approached by a loss prevention employee, the man ignored them and left the location on foot with the stolen coat.
Surveillance camera footage of the man was given to the responding police officer.
