TRENTON — A spokesperson from Trenton Express Market, 2471 W. Jefferson Avenue, reported March 10 that the store, which offers check cashing services, had cashed four fraudulent checks.

The earliest, which occurred July 13, 2022, was for a $162 State of Michigan income tax refund check which the financial institution told the store had already been cashed.

On Oct. 2, 2022, the store cashed a $215 check drawn on a Fifth Third Bank account that did not clear because the account had been closed.

A fraudulent check for $1,000 was cashed Dec. 7, 2022, from a PNC Ohio bank location. The account was noted as frozen and blocked.

The final fraudulent check, cashed Dec, 30, 2022, for $1,000 from Citizens Bank NA, was returned three weeks later, marked “return to maker.”
