DEARBORN – The Dearborn Public Library will virtually host author Alex Prud’homme for a Zoom conversation at 6:30 p.m. April 18 about his new book “Dinner with the President: Food, Politics and a History of Breaking Bread at the White House.”
Attendees will have the option to view the event from a personal device or watch the broadcast in the Henry Ford Centennial Library Auditorium, 16301 Michigan Ave. Copies of the book, along with a bookplate signed by the author, will be available for purchase during the event for auditorium attendees.
In this book, Prud’homme — co-author of Julia Child’s memoir “My Life in France” — invites readers into the White House kitchen to reveal the sometimes-curious tastes of 26 of America’s most influential presidents, how their meals were prepared and by whom, and the ways their choices affected food policy around the world.
The White House menu grew over time— from simple eggs and black coffee for Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War, to jelly beans and enchiladas for Ronald Reagan. What leaders say about food touches on everything from the nation’s shifting diet and local politics to global trade, science, religion, war, class, gender and race.
To register for the program or for more information, go to the Library’s events calendar at dearbornlibrary.org or call 313-943-2330. While registering, indicate whether you will attend in the auditorium, or on Zoom. A link will be emailed Zoom participants.
