TAYLOR — A clerk at Kroger, 7000 Monroe Road, was assaulted by a foiled shoplifter the afternoon of March 26 when they tried to prevent a man from exiting the store with a cart containing more than $500 worth of unpaid items.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras, showing the suspect to be a white male wearing a black coat and hat. After punching the employee in the face, the man ran away without any of the shoplifted items.
