HEIGHTS — A 38-year-old woman reported an attempted identity theft April 21 and said two con artists called her claiming to be with the FBI.

She said the callers told her that 25 businesses had been opened in her name in Texas, and that she would have to pay $65,000 to clear her name. She said they knew the last four digits of her Social Security number.

When they started to name different banks that they claimed had accounts in her name, she mentioned to the scammers the name of the financial institution that she uses. She was advised to monitor her bank accounts and to file another report immediately if she notices any fraudulent activity.
