RIVERVIEW — A 35-year-old Texas man who was speeding and swerving over the centerline on eastbound Sibley Road near Civic Park Drive at 12:05 a.m. May 6 was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

When a traffic stop was initiated, the driver smelled strongly of intoxicants, and his eyes were glossy and bloodshot. His speech was slurred and he admitted to having had three beers earlier.

The man said he did not know the English alphabet or how to count in English, so verbal standardized field sobriety tests were not administered. During the physical SFSTs, the man was not able to follow directions or maintain his balance.

An open beer bottle was found in a rear seat cupholder and was subsequently emptied onto the side of the road.

The driver was arrested for operating while impaired and was taken into custody, while his pickup was impounded and towed.

A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw, and the man was taken to Corewell Health in Trenton, after which he was taken to the Riverview police station, where he was booked and held.
