TRENTON — A Trenton man reported Sept. 30 that a person who was buying a boat he listed for sale on Craigslist cheated him out of $1,990 by sending him a check larger than the agreed upon price, then asking for the refund via the Zelle money transfer application.
The victim said he was selling the boat for $8,000, but the purchaser sent him a cashier’s check for $9995.35 through a credit union.
Although the $9995.35 check initially cleared, it was later found to be fraudulent. However, the victim had already refunded the overpayment via Zelle. He said the bank would not refund his Zelle transfer.
