RIVERVIEW — A 32-year-old Dearborn woman who ran a red light on eastbound Pennsylvania Road, and crashed into a vehicle with the right-of-way on southbound Fort Street, was arrested the night of Jan. 17 for operating while impaired.
Following the crash, a witness saw the at-fault driver exit her vehicle and pour a bottle of alcohol down a nearby drain.
The drivers were medically checked by fire department employees and both declined medical treatment.
The at-fault driver initially claimed that another person was driving and ran off after the crash, but she recanted when told that witness statements said otherwise.
She then admitted that she did not have a driver’s license with her, and offered her passport. After checking her identity in the Law Enforcement Information Network, she was found to have a suspended license and no insurance for her vehicle.
The woman, who was wearing only a bathrobe, was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle to keep warm.
She later failed multiple standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the woman had a blood-alcohol content of 0.134, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
The woman was taken into custody and cited for operating while impaired, driving with a suspended license and for having no vehicle insurance.
