RIVERVIEW — A 45-year-old Taylor man was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol the night of Jan. 16 following a traffic stop after a police officer saw him driving slowly on eastbound Sibley Road without his vehicle headlights on.
The driver appeared to have impaired motor skills as he struggled to retrieve the requested documents. He tried to pull up the documents on his cell phone but was unable to navigate the touch screen.
The man continually placed pieces of minty gum into his mouth while talking to the police officer.
The driver failed numerous standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.141, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
The man consented to a blood draw, and was taken to a nearby hospital for it to be performed.
His vehicle was impounded and towed, and he was processed and held in a cell at the police station until sober.
