HEIGHTS – Lee Lafeve, a long-time employee of the city, was named the city’s new director of Ordinance & Animal Control. He replaces former Director Bill Dishroon, who recently retired with 28 years of service to the city.
Lafeve began his law enforcement career with a three-year stint as a police reserve with the Garden City Police Department. Following his time in Garden City, he joined the Dearborn Heights Police Department where he remained for 27 years until his retirement in 2015.
Following his DHPD retirement, Lafeve served as a contract employee of the U.S. Marshal Service for five years, performing protection of federal judges, followed by a stint handling exterior protection detail.
He re-joined the city in 2021 as an employee of the then-Ordinance & Building Department (now Ordinance & Animal Control) prior to this week’s promotion as director.
As director, Lafeve is responsible for all facets of the city’s ordinance enforcement, and animal control and care activities, managing a staff of eight.
“I am pleased to see Mr. Lafeve taking on the role of director of our Ordinance and Animal Control Department,” Mayor Bill Bazzi said. “His experience as a long-time member of our police department, coupled with over four years’ experience as a member of the Ordinance and Animal Control Department makes him an excellent candidate as director. I’m confident he will be an effective leader for the department, and will continue to be a great asset for our community.”
