MELVINDALE — A 34-year-old Melvindale man who was admitted to Corewell Health Hospital in Dearborn on March 20 with gunshot wounds to his foot and thigh said he was shot by an unknown person at a gas station near his residence, but further investigation by police officers found no witnesses or evidence to support his story.
Staff at the gas station did not hear any gun shots, and did not see anyone who had been injured. In addition, no shell cases were found at the scene.
When police officers went to the man’s apartment building, they found a trail of blood coming from his apartment door to the parking lot. They also saw a Ring doorbell camera near the entrance to his apartment that had been destroyed.
Due to exigent circumstances, police officers entered the apartment. In a bedroom, they found the blue slushie that the man said he purchased at the nearby gas station. They also found a small pellet gun nearby.
The investigation continued, and six days later, a man was taken into custody and charged with assault with intent to murder, plus seven other assault and firearm charges.
