RIVERVIEW — A 19-year-old Melvindale man was arrested the night of April 18 for operating while impaired and as a minor in possession of alcohol after residents of the Glens subdivision reported a suspicious vehicle driving around the area and parking in front of different residences.
When a police officer approached the car with heavily tinted windows parked on Parkridge Court, he asked the driver to roll down all the windows, and asked for identification from him and his female passenger.
The officer observed several open cocktail containers in the car, including Twisted Tea and BuzzBallz within reach of the driver and passenger.
The 19-year-old driver admitted to drinking alcohol earlier. He failed numerous standardized field sobriety tests.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.145, higher than the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
The female passenger, who was staying at a residence on Parkridge Court for the night, was released into the custody of an adult.
An inventory search of the vehicle revealed two open cans of Twisted Tea, 10 unopened cans of Twisted Tea in a box behind the driver’s seat, a half empty blue BuzzBallz container, a sealed pint of tequila behind the driver’s seat, a small amount of personal use marijuana, and several pieces of drug paraphernalia, which were confiscated and destroyed.
The car was then impounded and towed.
The possession of alcohol by a minor was the young man’s second offense of that nature, with a 2024 citation issued previously.
