Firefighters responded to a fatal fire at 11:08 a.m. July 4 in a second story apartment in a building in the 17000 block of Wood Street.

MELVINDALE – A 66-year-old man died in a second-floor apartment fire the morning of July 4 in the 17000 block of Wood Street.
Dearborn Fire Chief Joseph Murray said they were alerted to the fire at 11:08 a.m., and arrived within five minutes to see heavy smoke and fire coming from a second story window, with neighbors reporting that a man was still inside the apartment.
Firefighters forcibly opened the front door and removed the man from the building before bringing the fire under control.
The man, who was unresponsive, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
No firefighters were injured by the blaze, which is currently under investigation.
Murray said the Dearborn Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
