Dearborn Heights City Councilmember Tom Wencel announces during the Aug. 26 council meeting that he is withdrawing from November’s general election and asked residents to not vote for him.

HEIGHTS – Incumbent City Councilmember Tom Wencel announced during the Aug. 26 council meeting that while his name will appear on the November ballot, he will no longer accept the position.
He also encouraged residents not to waste one of their city council selections by voting for him.
Wencel has served on the city council for the past two terms.
He said his energy is finite, and said that he is expending too much of it trying to get things done without seeing any results.
Wencel also said his family needs him. He and his wife, Debbie, are raising five grandchildren.
City Council President Mo Baydoun praised Wencel for his work on the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board in addition to his tenure on the council, and said he respected Wencel’s decision to put his family first.
Councilmember Hassan Ahmad said he has learned a lot from Wencel and thanked him for his years of service.
