MELVINDALE – Retired Allen Park Police Chief Chris Egan was appointed interim police chief Sept. 9 by the Public Safety Commission, a move needed while Police Chief Robert Kennalley undergoes cancer treatments.
Deputy Police Chief Nick Martinez, who had been acting as interim chief, submitted his resignation from the department following the decision.
The Police Department is undergoing an investigation following a lawsuit filed by Officer Hassan Hammoud alleging discrimination and harassment.
City officials also filled another vacancy Sept. 17, with the City Council approving longtime resident David Zajac as the new city clerk.
