TAYLOR — A 65-year-old Taylor man was arrested Sept. 23 for assault with intent to murder, resisting a police officer and operating under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly tried to cut his girlfriend’s neck with a knife in the 7000 block of William Avenue.
The two, who had lived together for four years, had not argued prior to the assault. His victim later reported that he was extremely inebriated.
The man was later arrested in a traffic stop as he attempted to enter southbound I-75 from Northline Road.
The man had been swerving while driving, and when stopped, smelled of intoxicants and his eyes were bloodshot.
A knife was found in his vehicle, which was impounded and towed.
A preliminary breath test was administered, and the man had a blood-alcohol content of 0.219, more than twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan. The man was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw before being transferred to the police station, where he was processed and held.
The stabbing victim was taken to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery due to the severity of her neck laceration, which caused an arterial bleed.
After surgery, the woman said this was not the first instance of domestic abuse, but said she had not documented previous cases with police officials.
