TAYLOR — A 28-year-old Detroit man who hit a light pole and a traffic sign the night of Oct. 31 on Telegraph Road near Wick Road before leaving the scene was arrested after police officers followed a vehicle fluid trail to his hiding spot in an alley south of Mary Street.
The fluid trail led to a gray 2014 Ford Escape with heavy body damage and the apparent driver standing near the vehicle.
The man, who resisted police officer instructions, was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed an open bottle of tequila on the front passenger seat.
The man was cited for leaving the scene of a crash and for having open alcohol in a vehicle. When the handcuffs were removed and he was instructed to retrieve items from his vehicle, he became physically aggressive with a police officer, and was handcuffed again and taken into custody.
He was cited for interfering with police authority. The vehicle was impounded and towed.
Employees from the Taylor Department of Public Works were summoned to the scene to move the downed light pole and to place a safety cone over the exposed electrical wires.
