DEARBORN — An unlicensed Ypsilanti man was arrested for driving under the influence, for having open alcohol in a vehicle and for driving without ever obtaining a driver’s license at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 29 when police officers discovered him in a brown 2013 Honda Civic that was stopped in an active traffic lane of southbound Ferney Street near Dix Avenue.
The man, whose eyes were bloodshot and glossy, had slurred speech and smelled of intoxicants. When he exited the car upon a police officer’s request, he had difficulty maintaining his balance.
He admitted to drinking three beers earlier, and requested a Spanish-speaking officer to respond to the scene.
The man failed standardized field sobriety tests, and refused to take a preliminary breath test. He was then taken into custody, and the vehicle was impounded and towed. His female passenger was given a courtesy ride to the police station, where she was picked up by a family member.
During booking, the man submitted to a preliminary breath test, and he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.199, more than twice the 0.08 limit for legally drunk in Michigan.
