TAYLOR — An employee of Total Community Credit Union reported Dec. 17 that they partially cashed a check for a 6-year member that turned out to be counterfeit.
They said the customer brought a $45,750 payroll check to them on Nov. 26 to be cashed. When the credit union said the amount was too high to cash, they agreed to provide $5,000 in cash to the customer so she could pay her rent and stave off an eviction. However, a week later the credit union had the check returned to them with the indication that it was not legitimate.
They said the client who presented the check has not responded to mailed letters and verbal voicemail messages.
