TAYLOR — A 45-year-old Port Huron man was arrested Dec. 1 with an electric bicycle he was seen on surveillance camera footage stealing a day earlier from McDonald’s, 21300 Ecorse Road.
The electric bicycle, valued at $1,172, belonged to a 13-year-old boy who had ridden it to the restaurant the afternoon of Nov. 30 to meet up with friends.
The thief is clearly seen on surveillance footage walking away with the e-bike, while wearing a black jacket with a red hoodie underneath, a knit hat, red shoes and a black backpack.
At 1:37 a.m. Dec. 1 police officers saw a man who matched the surveillance footage walking with the e-bike in the 22000 block of Ecorse Road, wearing the same clothes as earlier.
When the man was arrested, he said he swallowed the Fentanyl he had in his possession. He had three syringes and a crack pipe in his pants pocket.
The e-bike was held at the arrest location for the victim’s mother to come and pick up.
An online search of the suspect’s record showed two active felony arrest warrants and numerous misdemeanor arrest warrants.
As the Fentanyl he claimed he had taken appeared to kick in, he was taken to Corewell Health Hospital in Taylor for a medical evaluation, after which he was taken to the Taylor police station, where he was detained until being turned over to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
